How to Start a Photobooth Rental Business

Updated: Sep 23, 2023

If you are someone like me, you love photography, social activities and making money on the side.

Where to start?

Where do you even start when opening a business? I asked myself this question so many times that I just closed my computer. After I got over myself, I started doing research, "photobooths", "event industry" "how to start a business". Thats where I started. Research, research, research. Take a day to figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it. Figure out the market and learn if your location is the best place to start this business.

What do I need?

Once I decided, Seattle was a great market for a photobooth business, I started to research what I needed and companies that would provide me with the booth I was looking for. Once again, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH! Your best friend is Google when trying to figure out what you want to do. I found the company that had a booth I was really interested in and then set up a call with all the manufacturers. I weighed my options, cost/benefit analysis, ran a payback period analysis(in excel) to see how many events I needed to book to make my money back. It was a win no matter what.

Pressing the "Go" button.

I had all the information I needed, but I did not press "go" on the photobooth company. Why not? I was nervous. I knew it was going to be a decent upfront capital cost but cost to entry was not insane. What did it take for me to press "go", the encouragement from someone in my life whose opinion I valued and the support they provided propelled me forward. I requested a payment plan from the manufacturer, got it and paid it off in a few months. Once I paid the full balance, they shipped me the booth and I kicked it off.

Don't be afraid to just press go on your life. We are always doing it for other employers but never for things that may make us happy and truly fulfilled. Life is a two way door, and worst that can happen is some money is gone and it didn't work out but you went through it and gave it your all. Press go, start that photobooth business and learn how to scale and about yourself!
